First Lady of Fashion!

When it comes to our First Lady’s priorities, fashion is probably not at the top of her list. Although for us fashionistas and women who admire style and grace, Mrs. Michelle Obama is definitely at the top of ours. The regal beauty’s fashion sense is being praised in the new book, “Michelle Style: Celebrating the First Lady of Fashion,” by Mandi Norwood.

Chock full of photographs and impeccable illustrations, the book includes quotes from famous designers and industry insiders who admire our newest White House style icon. “Michelle Style,” is a cute book that also provides tips on the best sites to surf for bargain buys, as well as tips on how to dress for your body type.

Wanna Be a Makeup Pro?

Although I am a pro at applying most cosmetics, I am not a master at applying eye shadow or foundation. So when I received a copy of renowned makeup maven Bobbi Brown’s new book, “For Everyone from Beginner to Pro: Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual,” I was absolutely thrilled!

The book is packed with tips on everything from how to maintain healthy skin to applying false eyelashes. The best part is that it features a wide range of models with various skin-tones. This is definitely the perfect gift for all of your beloved beauty buffs!

Come On Get Happy!

With these grim economic times and an uncertain upcoming election, it’s easy to catch a case of the blues. Maintaining happiness is a state of mind that requires a conscious effort. We all have to decide whether or not we’re going to wallow in self-pity and despair or take action and seek happiness!

Focusing on the things that bring us joy is truly the only solution to combating the blues, but Oprah’s new book, “O’s Big Book of Happiness: The Best of O, The Oprah Magazine: Wisdom, Wit, Advice, Interviews, and Inspiration,” just might do the trick too!

Obama Book Fever!

As you guys know, I’m all about “Barack-ing the Vote,” on November 4th. With that said, I pretty much love watching or reading anything pertaining to my favorite presidential candidate and our potential First Lady. Within the last week, I’ve come across two books that are worth checking out – The American Journey of Barack Obama by LIFE editors and Michelle, by Liza Mundy. I’m an avid reader of biographies/autobiographies and love to collect coffee table books so these new titles were right up my alley!

The American Journey of Barack Obama is a beautiful hard-cover book filled with wonderful essays by notable LIFE magazine editors accompanied by rich, vibrant photographs of the presidential candidate. Retails, $24.99

I haven’t read the Michelle Obama biography yet, but I certainly plan to start this weekend. Retails, $25.00

Since many of us BGs love the Obamas, I thought that I’d let you guys know about these books if you didn’t know already.

Both books go on sale this month!

As the election date gets closer, do you have Obama fever too? What did you think about the debate last night?

Great Summer Reads

Summer is the perfect time to catch up on the mountain of books that you’ve been meaning to read for months. There’s nothing like sitting in a park or on your porch (if you live outside of NYC, LOL!) with a good book. Whether it’s a biography (my favorite), novel, self-help book or something in between, they all allow us to escape from the stresses of the world and take time for ourselves.

Unfortunately, this year I haven’t been reading as much as I usually do, but with a few upcoming out-of-town trips planned, I know that I’ll have plenty of time to do just that at my least favorite place – the airport!

What are you reading this summer? What’s your favorite book of all time (if you can name just one)?

Here are a few books that are on my MUST READ list for the summer:

The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream by Barack Obama

Green With Envy: Why Keeping Up with the Joneses is Keeping Us in Debt by Shira Boss

Ghettonation: A Journey into the Land of Bling and the Home of Shameless. She has a follow-up coming out in September, so I want to read this one first!

Cooked: From the Streets to the Stove, from Cocaine to Foie Gras by Jeff Henderson

Lies At the Altar: The Truth About Great Marriages by Dr. Robin Smith
