Remembering Aaliyah

It’s truly hard to believe that it was 10 years ago today that the entertainment industry lost a budding superstar. Granted, Aaliyah was our original Princess of R&B (sorry Ashanti) for years, but she was well on her way to becoming an incredibly major mainstream artist. With her budding acting career coupled with her marketability, Aaliyah was ready to take the world by storm before her life was cut short at the age of 22.

Although that avoidable airplane crash took her away physically, her music and movies will live on forever.

Be sure to catch, “Aaliyah: One in a Million,” tonight on BET at 8pm EST.

We Keep on “Fallin” a Decade Later!

Listen up all of my fellow Alicia Keys fans! The incredibly talented singer, producer, songwriter and new mom is set to release a special 10th Anniversary Deluxe and Collector’s edition on J Records/Legacy Recordings of her debut album, “Songs in A Minor,” on June 28th. Can you believe it’s been a decade since we first fell in love with the refreshing mega-hit, “Fallin?”

Not only will the deluxe (2 discs) offering deliver the goods from her original work that garnered Keys her first five Grammys, but will also feature previously unreleased and original bonus material. While the Collector’s Edition (3- disc set) will feature special packaging, liner notes, and a documentary reflecting on her debut ten years ago.

It’s hard to believe how quickly time flies, but it’s safe to say that Keys will be around for years to come.

Check out the trailer:

If you want to catch Keys in concert, she’ll be performing in New York City’s historic Beacon Theater on June 30th. Tickets go on sale on May 6th via TicketMaster.

Miss Jackson

Not many artists can sell millions of records, sell out stadiums and stand tall next to a MEGA-superstar sibling, but that’s not the case for Miss Janet Jackson. Always one of my favorite artists, Janet has released another greatest hits CD aptly titled, “Number Ones.” Fan favorites such as “Pleasure Principle,” “That’s the Way Love Goes, and “Control,” are among some of the tracks included, in addition to her latest single, “Make Me.”

If you’re a fan of Janet’s be sure to catch her first televised interview since the passing her beloved brother, Michael, tonight on ABC with Robin Roberts at 10/9C. Also, don’t miss Janet opening the American Music Awards this Sunday on ABC. 8/7C.

Soulful Sounds of Summer

With the anticipation of Whitney Houston’s upcoming release, “I Look to You,” it seems like people are finally getting excited about music again. After getting rave reviews from attendees at her listening parties in London, NYC and L.A, it seems like Ms. Houston just might be on her way to making a true comeback.

In addition to Whitney Houston’s highly-anticipated September release, here are a few other new and semi-new releases that could be music to your ears:

Whitney Houston – “I Look to You”

Maxwell – “Black Summer’s Night”

Jordin Sparks – “Battlefield”

Joe – “Signature”

What are some of your favorite CDs and songs right now? What do you think is the song of the summer? Are you looking forward to Whitney Houston’s new release? Do you think she can make a comeback?

Days of Their Lives

If you’re a fan of reality TV like me, this season of MTV’s Making the Band did not disappoint. For those of you who did watch the show, you witnessed Que’s mini-mental meltdown on basically every single episode. Luckily, he got a grip and the guys of Day 26 managed to band together to record their sophomore CD, “Forever and a Day,” which was released earlier this week. The two-part season finale airs tonight at 9pm EST on MTV.

Did you watch Making the Band this season? If so, what were your thoughts? Have you heard Day 26’s new release? One winner will win a copy of the CD. Just leave a comment and a winner will be selected randomly.

**The winner of The Body Shop lip gloss is KittyVodka!! Congrats!
