Stylish Strands for Spring!

A few celebrity styles that I admire. Click photo to enlarge.

When it comes to hair, I’m the simplest girl around. If I’m not wearing it straight (hence all of my flat iron posts) and down, it’s in a classic, chic bun or in a pumped up ponytail. I admit, I’m not that adventurous when it comes to my tresses. In fact, many people would consider it to be downright boring! So this spring, I’m trying to get up the nerve to do something a bit cutting edge, but not too drastic.

How do you wear your hair? Natural, short, relaxed, curly? What celebrity styles do you admire? Will you be rocking a new do this spring?

I know that I’ve been telling you guys about the hottest styling tools for our hair, but with all that heat our tresses definitely need protection. For the past couple of weeks I’ve been using TK. This moisturizer

Get to the Root!

For all the BGs who wear their hair straight, I have found a product that you’ll surely love! This past weekend, I tried the R Sessions RootControl. This popular styling tool is part straightening comb and part 1/2 inch ceramic barrel iron. It gets (straightens) to the root of your hair allowing you to get close to the scalp without ever feeling the heat.

Plus, it has three heating levels that you can select depending on the coarseness of your tresses. At first, I wasn’t sure if it would do the job, but I was pleasantly pleased with the results considering I hadn’t had a relaxer in about 5 months. For women who desire straight styles or who just want to smooth out roots or edges, this tool is a must-have. It is the perfect complement to the trusty flat iron because it reaches areas that the ceramic plates can’t without burning your scalp. I think my hair styling arsenal is finally complete!

Available at www.rsessiontools.com for $179.99

The Most Fabulous Flat Iron!

Just when I thought that I’d already found the perfect flat iron, I was introduced to the Sedu Revolutionary Professional Nano Tourmaline Ionic Styler! The difference between this one and my other favorite is the fact that the Sedu iron seems to provide less heat damage. I say this because I don’t get that dreaded burning smell when I’m doing my hair like I did with other one.

Plus, this flat iron has a sleek design and anti-slip edges that prevent hair from slipping, which eliminates snagging. I must admit, the best thing about it is that it comes with a heatproof iron pouch making it perfect for the girl on the go! As much as I despise doing my hair, this flat iron actually makes the task less arduous! I might even try doing something new with my do for the holidays!

Styling Tools for Our ‘Dos

When it comes to styling our hair, the tools that we use are important. I prefer using wide-tooth combs and paddle brushes to smooth my relaxed strands, but there are myriad tools that suit all hair types. From boar-bristle brushes to plastic fine-toothed combs, there are styling tools that will keep our ‘dos in place at all times!

I recently came across a great brand of ceramic and tourmaline combs and brushes called Studio IM. One lucky reader will win the following combs and brushes valued at $49.50 from this line. Just leave a comment and a winner will be selected randomly. The winner will be announced on Tuesday.

What kinds of combs/brushes do you prefer? Wide-tooth, plastic, etc?

Dryers without the Damage

We all know that using heating tools to style our hair is never the best option, but what’s a girl to do? Even though applying extreme heat on our tresses over a long period of time can cause major damage to our dos, there are a few preventive measures we can take when it comes to drying our hair. Using a tourmaline-infused dryer can decrease the damage and breakage by drying the hair faster. Infrared heat penetrates hair to heat it gently from within. Infrared is a different type of heat that does not heat the air. Instead, more heat is delivered to the hair shaft, while less is delivered to the surface, so hair is not damaged. Plus, I’ve found that these dryers leave hair shiny and smooth!

Going with the Motions

I’ve always heard great things about Motions’ products, but now I can finally vouch for the brand too. When I tried their new Marula Hair and Scalp Oil, I instantly became a fan. Prior to actually using it, I was a bit skeptical because I’ve had my fair share of trying products that didn’t live up to the hype. Luckily, for my locks that was not the case with this light-weight spray.

This product, which is made with 100% marula oil was just what I needed to give my oftentimes, dry and dull-looking tresses a nice sheen without leaving it lifeless or greasy. Plus, it has a delightful tropical scent that makes you want to continuously use it. I’ve applied it daily for about 2 weeks now and will definitely add it to my hair repertoire!
