Skincare for Brown Skin!

As you guys know, I enjoy trying new skincare products; but if there’s one brand that I recommend for us brown-skinned beauties, it has to be Rx for Brown Skin by Dr. Susan Taylor. This line of products ranging from toner to body lotion was especially formulated for Asian, Latin and African-American skin tones. Since we often suffer from hyper-pigmentation and other skin conditions, it is necessary to have products with ingredients that won’t irritate our skin or exacerbate the problem, but combat our unique skin afflictions.

Have you ever tried any of the Rx for Brown Skin products? If not, would you? One lucky winner will win the following products, valued at $75! Just leave a comment and a winner will be randomly selected.

Rx for Brown Skin Peel Kit available at www.sephora.com for $50

Skin Evening Body Citrus Body Lotion available at www.sephora.com for $25

**Sidenote, BGG extends condolences to my fellow Chicagoan, Jennifer Hudson and her family. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. My hope is that her nephew returns to them soon.

Sensational Stains

Many of us BGs are powder blush and bronzer babes, but cheek stains are a great alternative! For the past two years I’ve been a huge fan of Tarte’s gel-based cheek stain in Flush. It goes on sheer which gives just the right amount of color without looking too overdone. The barely-there tint is ideal for a more natural glow. Plus, it prevents the beauty faux-pas of applying too much with a brush (I apply mine with my fingertips). Don’t be afraid of the color it appears to be in the bottle, play around and find the color that suits you best!

Do you use cheek stains? Would you?

Get Glowing Skin!

We’ve all heard the phrases, “you are what you eat,” and “beauty starts from within.” The people over at Nestle believe that their newest creation, Glowelle, a dietary supplement beauty drink packed with a combination of skin-beautifying antioxidants is what women have been waiting for. I had the opportunity to try the product, but I haven’t used it consistently yet to actually see results.

Glowelle Natural Jasmine Flavor 7-Day Powder Pack Kit available at www.neimanmarcus.com for $40

If you don’t believe that beauty can be found in a bottle, a healthy diet is always an option!

According to various research studies these foods can help create sensational skin:

• Dark chocolate
• Red wine

• Leafy greens
• Red veggies
• Water (of course!)

Would you try a beauty drink? Do you monitor what you eat to help maintain a glowing, healthy complexion? Share your thoughts. One lucky reader will win a Glowelle 7-day starter kit, worth $40. Winner will be selected at random and announced tomorrow.

Bin-Worthy Beauty

We BGs love makeup, which means that we probably own a ton of it that needs to be tossed! I know that I have plenty of bin-worthy beauty products that are no longer good, but still taking up space in my makeup drawer.

In most cases, the expired cosmetics have been barely used or we simply don’t realize that our makeup must-haves are in need of a replacement. Wearing old products can wreak havoc on our skin and cause nasty bacterial infections that are not pretty!

BGG has gathered the facts to let you know the lifespan of the most common cosmetics.

According to various studies:

Mascara – Needs to be discarded 3 months after use
Lipstick – Toss after 2 years
Eyeliner Pencils – Replace within 3 to 6 months
Foundation – Find a new one between 6 months to a year after use
Blush, Eye-shadow, Face Powders – Get rid of after 3 years

Also, if any of your products have an odor or have changed colors, those are obvious signs that it’s time to throw them away!

Do you pay attention to the shelf-life of your beauty products?
