Color-Correcting Concealers!

Many BGs suffer from hyper-pigmentation (when patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin) due to old blemishes or acne scars and I’m no exception. I usually have at least one blemish that I try to hide with concealer. I dab a bit on the dark spot and then cover it with a bit of foundation and the unsightly blemish is virtually gone!

For years I’ve used Dermablend’s cover creme to conceal dark circles or dark spots, but just last week I tried Susan Posnick’s color corrector stick and was incredibly pleased with the easy application and overall results.

Do you use concealer? If so, what’s your favorite brand?

Best Body Oil Buys

A friend recently re-introduced me to the benefits of body oils. She told me that it leaves skin smooth and shiny (in a good way). At first, I wasn’t exactly sold on the idea of trying them again because when I think of body oils, I think of the guy on the street selling them and I haven’t had the best experience with those!

Nonetheless, I decided to give it a go and try Neutrogena’s Body Oil since I had seen it advertised over the years in just about every magazine on the newsstands. I tried it and it did give my legs a silky sheen, but I wasn’t too keen on the fragrance. I haven’t given up on body oils just yet because I do like the results; plus they’re great for massages! I’ll just keep looking until I find one that suits my senses.

Thrilled for Thevi Cosmetics!

I recently had the opportunity to try a few products from a new line, called Thevi Cosmetics. As you guys know, I love trying new products, but oftentimes end up disappointed. That was not the case when I tried these products. Created by a woman of color, Thevi Cosmetics is designed to complement the vast array of skin-tones that we BGs have. I tried the mascara, blush and a lip color and was thoroughly impressed. I’d have to say that my favorite was the mascara. Although it doesn’t match my tried and true – Maybelline Great Lash, it was still better than a lot of other brands that I’ve used on my lashes. Not only were the products of quality, the packaging was sleek and modern.

Have you ever tried Thevi? When was the last time you tried a new product and were pleasantly surprised? Please share!

The Best Luxurious Lotion for Less!

There are some products that deserve a post all to themselves and today that product is Aveeno’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion! I was first introduced to this “luxurious lotion for less,” a few months ago by my mom. Let me say that my family has the driest skin on earth. Ok, maybe our skin isn’t the DRIEST on earth, but it’s pretty bad.

So, when I saw how Aveeno transformed my mother’s dry and cracked alligator-looking legs into silky smooth gams, I was sold! When I tried it, I had the same flattering results. The best thing about this particular lotion is that it lasts all day. So many other brands leave you ashy again after about an hour or so. I have yet to find another drugstore brand moisturizing lotion that has come close to this product.

Have you ever tried Aveeno? What is your favorite brand of lotion?

Available at www.drugstore.com for $6.79 (8 oz.)

Cute Compacts!

What BG doesn’t carry a small mirror in her purse? Well, I guess that would be me. The other day I found myself fishing around my bottomless pit of a purse in search of a mirror!

Surprisingly, I realized that the only mirror I have is in my MAC powder compact (which I leave at home after I apply my makeup). So I think it’s time I pick up a cute compact to add to the rest of the beauty junk in my bag. Or I could just tote along my makeup MAC one!

Do you carry a compact mirror with you at all times?

Going with the Motions

I’ve always heard great things about Motions’ products, but now I can finally vouch for the brand too. When I tried their new Marula Hair and Scalp Oil, I instantly became a fan. Prior to actually using it, I was a bit skeptical because I’ve had my fair share of trying products that didn’t live up to the hype. Luckily, for my locks that was not the case with this light-weight spray.

This product, which is made with 100% marula oil was just what I needed to give my oftentimes, dry and dull-looking tresses a nice sheen without leaving it lifeless or greasy. Plus, it has a delightful tropical scent that makes you want to continuously use it. I’ve applied it daily for about 2 weeks now and will definitely add it to my hair repertoire!

Have you used Motions? If so, what are your thoughts on their products?
